The Story
For more than 40 years, I’ve stood at the crossroads of life and death as an ER physician. In those rooms, seconds decide who lives. The same clarity, boldness, and confidence that save lives in the ER are the tools I now give to leaders, teams, and students.
But my work didn’t stop at the ER doors. I was appointed by the Mayor of Washington, D.C. as Medical Director and Assistant Fire Chief, leading the city’s emergency response to Ebola and mass-casualty events. I’ve commanded in chaos, built systems under fire, and proven that hesitation is the enemy of survival.
And then the ER came home.
I fought prostate cancer three times — through surgery, radiation, and advanced treatment. 114 medical appointments in 18 months. I didn’t just survive. I conquered cancer through relentless decisions.
That’s why my frameworks don’t live in theory. They’ve been tested in trauma bays, crisis commands, and life-or-death battles of my own body.
